Language Study for Sutra Translations Overview

Preserving Wisdom through Mastery of Translation

Great Wisdom is excited to provide this new academic program especially designed to prepare students for a profession of sutra translations. Throughout history, translations have served as critical means to preserve humankind’s priceless heritages, particularly religions. In this program, students study the primary source languages of Buddhist texts, specifically classical Tibetan and classical Chinese. They also learn grammar and style relevant to translations, as well as skills necessary for accurate and accessible sutra translations.
